How does Mobile Diagnostic Imaging's on-site study differ from the hospital's?

Mobile Diagnostic Imaging utilizes the same fluoroscopy equipment utilized in the hospital. We just utilize a more compact version. The hospital utilizes a fluoroscopy unit attached to a table. This is because the hospital equipment is utilized for other x-ray’s other than barium swallows. The patient usually is transferred into a special chair for the procedure, and positioning in the hospital can be a problem.

Advantages of MDI over the hospital

  • More cost efficient
  • Individualized tests
  • Less disruptive to the patient
  • Copy of the study provided on CD
In contrast Mobile Diagnostic Imaging utilizes a “C-Arm” which can be moved vertically, horizontally, backwards, and forward. The arm has a range of motion up to 180 degrees. The patient does NOT have to be transferred into a special chair and can sit in their own wheelchair, geri chair, or even a merry walker during our swallow study.

Mobile Diagnostic Imaging can perform the exam and still capture a quality image on the most “difficult” to position patients (severe kyphosis, contractures, morbidly obese) because of our specialized equipment.
